Redesigned website gives Keep it in Keller campaign expanded reach

City officials started the “Keep it in Keller” campaign in 2010, urging residents to stay at home and spend their money at local restaurants and shops instead of venturing elsewhere.

Four years later, a newly designed website is giving new life — and an expanded reach — to the initiative.

Keep it in Keller is the city’s digital approach toward expanding economic growth in the city with a goal of becoming a shopping, dining and entertainment destination for residents across North Texas.

Economic Development director DeAnna Reaves has helped lead the charge on the website’s redesign.

“We wanted to mirror the vitality of Keller’s growing business community with this redesign,” Reaves said. “We made sure to use bright and lively colors and designs so people can see it’s easy to use and actually want to keep using it.”

More than 500 restaurants boutiques, recreation centers, offices and more are listed on the website alongside their addresses, phone numbers, websites and a handy map so users can pinpoint each place, or discover new businesses elsewhere in the city or not easily found. The website will also cycle promotions for businesses with specials and coupons users can print out or redeem online and lunch specials.

The website also provides helpful links for more information about city parks, libraries, directions to major Metroplex areas like Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

Kay Stewart, owner of Buttercup’s Bake Shoppe at 2122 Rufe Snow Drive, said she believes the website will help continue to bring business to her bakery and inspire local shopping. She said the customer base in Keller is unlike any other she’s experienced.

“Operating in Keller has been wonderful,” she said. “The people here are great and the community has been very gracious. I think initiatives like this will help promote local businesses and the Keller crowd is very loyal to their city.”

Reaves said the city hopes the website will be used as a marketing tool for current businesses and a way to alert visitors of the benefits of local shopping, all resulting in a stronger sales tax base for the city. It’s also available in mobile form for those who prefer to browse on their smartphones or want to use it on-the-go.

Although marketing for current businesses is a main goal for the department, Reaves said she hopes it also serves as recruitment for businesses looking at coming to Keller.

“We want people to know that we’re very passionate about business growth in Keller, whether that’s welcoming new businesses or keeping the ones here thriving,” Reaves said.
